Dennis James and Musica Curiosa

Thursday November 4, 2010 at 7:30 PM
The Washington Center for the Performing Arts - Stage I
Dennis James is well known to the Washington Center audience as the organist and silent movie authority behind our annual silent movie series. Less well known is that he owns and is an authority on some very unusual musical instruments.
This Musica Curiosa Evening includes David Peckham on our Mighty Wurlitzer organ and Dennis James playing a glass armonica (a Benjamin Franklin invention), a theremin, and who knows what else!
Curious musician Dennis James together with his Musical Curiosities collection of historical music instruments possesses a far-reaching musical vision, traversing the realms of Mozart and Beethoven, segueing seamlessly into Modern Minimalism, morphing by way of Hollywood film music and 1920s salon music through 1940s and 50s novelties. Never constrained by preexisting formulas, his musical adventures transport listeners to uncharted musical landscapes.
Dennis James' Musica Curiosa program, featuring the Washington Center Wurlitzer pipe organ throughout, presents an aural and visual feast for the senses!
