Empowering their community. Supporting women.  Leading change.  Standing up.  They are the 2016 Women & Businesses of Achievement.  The YWCA of Olympia invites you to celebrate our 2016 Women & Business of Achievement: Prairie Rose Hyde, Meg Martin, Penelope Partridge, Sandi Roberts, LaTasha Wortham, and South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity.

The 23rd Annual Women of Achievement Celebration, proudly presented by Titus Will, also features special guest speaker, former US Surgeon General, Dr. Joycelyn Elders. When she was sworn in as the U.S. Surgeon General in 1993, Dr. Joycelyn Elders became the first African American and the second woman to hold the post.  During the Senate hearings on her confirmation, Dr. Elders stated “I want to change the way we think about health by putting prevention first. I want to be the voice and vision of the poor and powerless. I want to change concern about social problems that affect health into commitment.” Dr. Elders says her biggest obstacles in life were poverty, racism, and sexism.  But she never let these barriers stop her from standing up for the rights of the young, the poor, and the powerless.  Largely due to Elders’ lobbying, she has helped increase sex education in public schools, nearly doubled childhood immunizations, and increased home-care options for the chronically or terminally ill.  Her determination to push past her own obstacles and make her voice heard has been an inspiration for many. It is a great honor to have Dr. Elders as our 2016 Women of Achievement keynote speaker.

Women of Achievement features music, spoken word performance, silent & live auction and much more. This is an event you don’t want to miss!

Join us for a VIP Reception before the main event! Select “EVENT+RECEPTION” tickets when you choose your seats, and join us at 5:30 PM in the Black Box theater for a meet & greet with Dr. Elders and our Honorees, and music with the Lizzy & Tarik Duo. VIP tickets are limited, so don’t delay!

By attending our special night of celebration, you will support YWCA Olympia and our mission to eliminate racism and sexism to advance the political, social and economic status of all women and girls. Our vision is a world where all people are valued, live free from oppression and thrive in a just society.

Once again Titus-Will has stepped up as the Women of Achievement Presenting Sponsor with WSECU as the Sustaining Sponsor and O Bee Credit Union serving as Supporting Sponsor.
