Virtuosic classical music shows in Olympia feature the world’s top-tier soloists and chamber musicians. For the first time ever, Emerald City Music explores the power of the human voice with a carefully crafted selection of works inspired by spirituals. Music by Mendelssohn, Ives, Copland, and more.

Ives — Violin Sonata no. 4
Copland — Three Moods, for solo piano
Herbert — Selected Songs and Spirituals
Block — Prayer, for cello and piano
Mendelssohn — Piano Trio no. 2 in C Minor

Musicians visit from around the world, and include:

Christopher Herbert, baritone: two-time GRAMMY nominated member of NY Polyphony
Gilbert Kalish, piano: monumental influencer of American music, Chamber Music Society artist, collaborator with soprano Dawn Upshaw and a champion of music by Charles Ives
Kwan Yi, piano:  Italy’s Trio di Trieste competition winner, graduate of Curtis Institute and Juilliard School
Alexi Kenney, violin: Avery Fisher Career Grant winner, and member of  CMS Two at Lincoln Center
Michelle Djokic, cello: founder of Concordia Chamber Players and member of San Francisco’s New Century Chamber Orchestra.
