The Washington Center for the Performing Arts is committed to accommodating your accessibility needs. If you have needs other than those listed here, please contact our helpful Box Office Staff.
Wheelchair/Walker Access at The Washington Center
The Washington Center is a historic building however, both our Main Stage and Black Box theaters have accessible seating options available.
For wheelchair access in our Main Stage, you can purchase a designated space for a wheelchair and a companion seat in person, over the phone, or online. For online purchasers, these seats are designated by an accessibility icon when selected and are located in Rows “A”,”K,”and ”L” of the orchestra. Please note that the wheelchair seats are for wheelchair users only, and there is no theater-seat in that space.
For wheelchair access in our Black Box, these seats are available, but their location may change based on the event. Please contact our box office directly to reserve these seats.
For walker users, we recommend the transition seats in the orchestra and ask people to call the box office if they need assistance selecting a seat. Walkers will be placed in the front, near the stage, for egress purposes. Should you need your walker back, please partner with a volunteer.
Wheelchair/Walker Access at The Minnaert Center
The Minneart Center has accessible seating options available in both our Main Stage and Black Box.
For our Main Stage, there are two options available depending on the event. One set of seats is located at the back of the theater and requires a short elevator ride. The other seats are located on either the far left or far right side aisles, and are accessible through a side hallway. Walkers will be placed in the front, near the stage, for egress purposes. Should you need your walker back, please partner with a volunteer.
For our Black Box, these seats are available, but their location may change based on the event.
In both cases, please contact our box office directly to reserve these seats.
Assistive Listening Devices
All of our main stage theaters are equipped with assistive listening devices which are available for use. At The Washington Center, please see a volunteer at the Concessions bar. At the Kenneth J Minnaert Center, please see the Box Office for assistance.
Large Print Programs
Large print programs are available, by advance request, at all of Washington Center Presented Events.
Not all of our rental or artistic partner events will have programs available, so we cannot guarantee the availability of large print programs at those events.
Please contact our helpful Box Office staff at least one week before your event, and we will do our best to secure a large print program from our renter or artistic partner.
Mobility Assistance at The Washington Center
We have a wheelchair that can be used for getting inside from the street to a theater seat. In addition, we have several aisle seats with armrests that pivot out of the way to ease wheelchair transfer, or for those with leg casts.
While our staff and volunteers are prepared to lend a hand, they are not trained or allowed to perform transfers for safety reasons. They will be happy to store and retrieve your walker, crutch, or wheelchair.
Service Animals
We welcome service animals at all of our facilities. If your official service animal will be attending a performance with you, please contact our box office so we can make sure we accommodate both you and your animal’s seating needs.
