Dr. Nalini Nadkarni’s “Between Earth and Sky,” shown at the latest National Geographic Live show at the Washington Center, was a wonderful blend of personality and research and really helped inform the audience on why we should care about the forest and its ecology. She talked about her own research down in Costa Rica and the Amazon, and also where she spends most of her work time, the Hoh Rainforest in Washington. She also gave a detailed explanation on how her own research connects to other areas of study and parts of our lives, like music, psychology, commerce, medicine, and even prison reform. In fact, the project she helped create and advance to give inmates jobs and make them feel like they are helping society is now used in multiple states nationwide! I really enjoyed her talk, and would seriously recommend her to anyone who loves learning about nature and the world we live in.
