“If the arts exist to enrich our lives… then The Washington Center’s mission must surely be not only to provide the various art forms but to nurture the pursuit of them in our young people.”
~ Sally Anacker, Former Board President
The Washington Center for the Performing Arts is proud to announce that applications for the 2017 Washington Center Anacker Scholarship for the Arts have gone live. First awarded in 2014, this scholarship recognizes, encourages, and supports a Thurston County Scholar’s study in the field of the arts.
Last year’s recipient, Heather Moore, graduated from Tumwater High School. Heather began playing trumpet in 5th grade and has since played in Jazz band, concert band, marching, band, pep band, and choir, along with the PLU Honor Jazz Band. She has been accepted to Central Washington University in Ellensburg and plans to pursue a bachelor of arts degree in music education. “Music brings us together, and playing for people brings me joy,” says Heather. “My dream job would be to return to Tumwater and work within the district.” She was recognized at our annual Center Stage Awards and Gala last July.
Applicants will have spent one academic year or longer as a resident of Thurston County, be graduating in 2017 as a senior of a Thurston County high school or homeschool, and have enrolled or will be enrolling in a course of study focused on the arts intending to pursue a career in the arts.
